Welcome to the Walker County Sheriff’s Office web site! On behalf of the Walker County Sheriff’s Office, I am pleased to present our official web page. In these fast paced days of change, we consider this our latest effort to keep up with new and improved technology. We have attempted to feature many different areas of the Sheriff’s Office. As you explore our site, it is our sincere wish that we will be able to provide you with answers to frequently asked questions or contact information for our employees, as well as other agencies and offices. I was elected to the Office of Sheriff in November of 1996, and took office in January 1997. I am currently serving my fourth term. It is my desire, and the desire of all the men and women at the Walker County Sheriff’s Office, to promote public safety and to enhance the quality of life for all citizens of Walker County. MARCH 20, 2014

On March 19, 2014, the Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit Drug Task Force served three search warrants in Chattooga County and one search warrant in cob County, Georgia. Four (4) arrest warrants were also served, with a fifth arrest made on related charges.

A controlled delivery of eight (8) ounces of uncut “Ice” methamphetamine led to the arrest of the following subjects:

The search warrants yielded additional amounts of uncut “Ice” methamphetamine, firearms and cash.

A stash of firearms, military grade ballistic gear and small arms ammunition were discovered at one of the search warrant locations. These items were packaged and prepared to be shipped to a location in Central America.

Total amont of uncut “Ice” methamphetamine seized in yesterday’s operation approaches two (2) kilograms. Once processed, the “Ice” has a potential street value in excess of $250,000.

Thieves Target Churches

Churches Target of Thefts 

Two Lookout Mountain, Georgia, churches have become victims of theft after metal thieves struck the houses of worship Sunday night / Monday morning, according to Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson. 

Three HVAC units, valued at $10,000, were destroyed at Ascalon Baptist Church, 109 Ascalon Road, Rising Fawn, Georgia.  Thieves removed the coil condensers and copper. 

Four HVAC units, valued at $12,000, were damaged at Lookout Mountain Assembly of God, 6083 Highway 157, Rising Fawn, Georgia.  The coil condensers and copper were taken from these units. 

Walker County detectives are reviewing some similarities to the recent Dade County church HVAC thefts. 

Detectives are looking for a black Ford pickup truck, late 1990’s or early 2000 year model, with a long wheel base that was seen in the parking lot of Ascalon Baptist Church on Sunday night.

PRESS RELEASE

 

On Wednesday January 9th 2014 during the Walker County Commissioner’s meeting, Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson and Walker County Commissioner Bebe Heiskell presented Proclamations to those involved in the lifesaving and firefighting efforts during a house fire that occurred on October 24th 2013 in Chickamauga, Georgia.

The Proclamations were presented to Walker County Sheriff’s Deputies Zach Simpson, Josh Mathis, and Shawn Carter, Walker County Emergency Services Dispatchers Scott Wooten, Catessa Blansit, and Lisa Pless as well as Walker County Emergency Services.

All were commended for their efforts during a house fire that occurred at 117 South Forrest road in Chickamauga where Nicole Kenney and her two children were rescued from their home during an active house fire.

The Deputies and E-911 dispatchers also received gifts from the Kenny’s during the presentation.

SUTTON CHARGED WITH MURDER

Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson announced Friday afternoon that a felony criminal warrant has been issued for the arrest of Marcus Eugene Sutton, charging him with murder. 

Sutton is accused with the late Wednesday night shooting death of Anderson “Andy” Watts at 22 Fisher Road, Rossville, Georgia.

Sutton is described as a black male, 20 years of age, 5’6″, 160 pounds, black hair and brown eyes.

Sheriff Wilson describes Sutton as armed and extremely dangerous.

Sheriff Steve Wilson says they are looking for Marcus Sutton, 20, who they say was at the apartment at or around the time of the shooting. Sutton is facing four felony charges including, aggravated assault, reckless conduct, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and violation of probation. All four charges stem from an incident two weeks prior to last night’s shooting. 

The Walker County officials responded to a shots fire called at an apartment complex on Fisher Road shortly after 11:30pm on Wednesday.
When police arrived, they found a 23year old man dead with multiple gun shot wounds.
Sheriff Steve Wilson says the victim had been staying with a resident at the complex for a few days.
The tenant was out of the apartment walking a dog when the shooting happened.

On Monday October 7, 2013, at approximately 8:34 PM, Walker County 911 received a call of a shooting at 1039 Old Dalton Road, Lafayette.  When the responding officers arrived on the scene, they found a male subject deceased.  The investigation provided information of a male and female subject who left the scene just prior to the officer’s arrival. 

 

The victim was identified at the scene as Roy Leonard McKeehan, Jr., 63 years of age, of Lafayette, Georgia.  The victim appeared to have a possible gunshot wound and trauma to his head and neck area.  The exact cause of death will be determined pending autopsy results.

 

A lookout was issued for the vehicle seen leaving the scene.  Early into the investigation, Chattooga County, Georgia, sheriff’s deputies came into contact with a vehicle matching the description of the vehicle.  While attempting to stop the vehicle , the driver of the vehicle led Chattooga County authorities on a chase into Cherokee County, Alabama.

 

According to authorities in Cherokee County, Alabama, the driver of the vehicle lost control of his vehicle and crashed.  Upon authorities approaching the suspect’s vehicle, the driver appeared to have a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene. 

 

The suspect / driver of the vehicle was identified as Daniel Chad Marks, age 35, of Lafayette, Georgia.

 

A female occupant of the vehicle was unharmed; she is being questioned and interviewed by authorities.

 

The investigation is on-going.

The sale will take place at the Court House Annex parking

 lot located on East Villanow Street in Lafayette.

This will be an auction sale.

The boat that is up for bids is a 2006 21 ft. Bullet Boat with

 A Mercury Pro XS 225 motor and boat trailer.

Walker County Sheriff’s Office Receives Grant from
Governor’s Office of Highway Safety

The Walker County Sheriff’s office has been awarded an $8,000 grant from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) to purchase the Intoxilyzer 9000. 

The Intoxilyzer 9000 is utilized in obtaining the implied consent state administered breath test for prosecution of DUI offenders.

 According to GOHS data, there were 298 alcohol related fatalities in Georgia in 2010, and 52,775 impaired driving arrests during FY 2010.

Entering Auto Suspect Information

During Monday night April 29, 2013, through Tuesday morning April 30, 2013, nine residences on Merrywood Drive, Still Water Drive and Dellwood Drive had vehicles entered and items stolen.  We are asking all residents who might have seen anyone in the area walking, driving slowly, stopping in front of residences or acting suspiciously to contact Detective Dye at the following.
