Major Mike Freeman is Chief Deputy and assumes all administrative duties in the absence of Sheriff Steve Wilson.
Major Freeman handles all personnel issues, including decisions involving employees. He is also responsible for overseeing internal investigations involving inmates or employees, and also addresses citizen complaints against employees.
Major Freeman is instrumental in helping to determine budget issues, including where SPLOST funds are most needed to purchase departmental equipment. Often special projects are initiated and outside financial resources are researched.
Major Freeman frequently interacts with each division supervisor to assist in the day-to-day operation of the Sheriff’s Office.
Kimberly Jones is the Executive Assistant and is responsible for a wide variety of administrative duties in support of Sheriff Steve Wilson and other management personnel.
Ms. Jones maintains payroll records, personnel files and all other documents related to human resource services for the Walker County Sheriff’s Office employees.
Ms. Jones is responsible for accounts payable functions in reference to ordering supplies, equipment and services for the department, as well as account receivable funds coming into the office.
Jean Kendrick and Mike Peppers respond to multiple requests for information from Walker County citizens who come to the Sheriff’s Office requesting items such as incident and accident reports.
Individuals seeking to be fingerprinted for various reasons, including but not limited to teachers, gun permits, adoptions and medical professionals, will be assisted by reception personnel.
Background check applications can be picked up and turned in at the reception area.
Reception personnel are also responsible for greeting the public and directing inquiries, in addition to forwarding incoming telephone calls to requested employees.
