The Criminal Investigations Division (CID) of the Walker County Sheriff's Office is responsible for investigating major crimes that occur within Walker County. Investigators within CID are tasked with providing follow-up investigation on cases where a crime has been committed but no arrest has been made, as well as initiating new cases independently. The Criminal Investigation Division hours of operation are Monday -Friday 8am- 5pm. An investigator is assigned with an on call status ; this provides for a 24 hour a day investigator.
Our Division is commanded by Captain Richie Dye. The division is currently comprised of nine investigators and two administrative assistants. It is our goal to provide you with the most professional and well-trained investigators in the region. Our investigators utilize traditional investigative methods along with the latest technology to provide its citizens with the best results. Our investigative division is divided into 2 categories, general investigations and child and sex crime investigations.
There are seven investigators assigned to the general investigations division. General investigators are responsible for investigating unsolved criminal cases reported to the Sheriff’s Office. Homicides, robberies, missing persons, burglaries, thefts, financial crimes, frauds, assaults and other related crimes against persons are some examples of the cases investigated.
Our Child and Sex Crime investigators investigate crimes against children as well as sexual assaults and rapes. These investigators are specially trained to handle the needs of victimized children and victims of a sexual assault. They work closely with other agencies such as the Department of Family and Children Services, District Attorney’s Office, Department of Juvenile Justice, Children’s Advocacy Center, and the Sexual Assault Center.
